A Scratched Life

A gathering of  stitched scrolls

This winter is driving me to dots
and
dare I say it....
 to machine stitching as well.

The merlin are back
Even bolder this year
Now they sit atop the bird feeder
in plain view.
We drove up the valley to pick up new car
It was important to get it before tomorrow's storm arrived.

The windiest snowstorm I have ever experienced.
Half the day without power.
On Thursday the snow stopped
but the wind kept on blowing.

The migratory birds are returning.
I have spent many hours going through the boys earliest drawings.
on Sunday we reconnected with neighbours
some of whom
escaped South for the wintry months.

A New Show By The Connections Fibre Artists Group

A show to be seen for those of you in Ontario
It is bound to be great
Full of inspiration

The opening reception is April 4
from 7-9 p.m.
at the Wellington Country Museum and Archives

Connections is a group I have been a member of for many years now.
A group of fellow artists that I am very fond of.
Our goal is to promote fibre arts
and thus hold shows regularly.
Should be a great show.

Stitch Scratch

Another week scratched in time

The day all things turn green

Pisces blowing 37 bubbles
That's how old my baby boy turns today!

Some of us met on Thursday
to plan a show

Eagles are soaring high above us
Wonder if they will nest around here

This was for our snowy weekend
Not very good
Sometimes things don't turn out as good as you visualize them!
Apologies for the quality of these photos
They were taken late at night
Way past my bedtime!

My Constant Companions

Rusty Pups are always underfoot

RP Shandy always has a frozen tennis ball close by at this time of year

Occasionally RP Kayla steals said tennis ball

and then invites her sister to rumble

when chases ensue.

Sometimes we decide to sit down and look beautiful

and then one might spy some movement in the woods

Time to go inside for a cookie.

Frozen Fringes

One of our streams is still frozen over

but trying to reappear.

At the other end of the pond
the other stream is flowing

frilly ice reaches out over the water

or grows into stalactites that kiss the watery surface.

Sometimes it reaches out over the stream
looking a bit like some kind of musical instrument.

Chimes perhaps

Clinking glasses

Encrusting rocks and weeds

Beautiful filigree lace

Ice jam under the bridge.
Brrr I'm feeling quite cold after this post!

Hoping The Geese Know Something I Don't

A pale week indeed

Trying to bring some colour back

Days of doodles and pebbles

We went out in the rain
for a St. Patrick's celebration
with Handy Hubby's golfing pals.
Sunday was a day for the birds
because
the first geese came honking up the Basin
and the biggest hawk we've ever seen
swooped down somewhere in the woods.

Scratching Into Springtime

It's freeeeezing here
despite the clocks leaping into spring!

On Monday Chris and I painted and printed up a storm
She taught me ipad scrabble
On Tuesday my visitor left and made tracks across the province.

For some reason Thursday turned pink....just not me.
If it's Friday it must be yoga....chair yoga!

Saturday we dined with friends surrounded by candles
overlooking the Annapolis Basin
Their way of celebrating Mardi Gras
We were bedazzled in beads and masks.
On Sunday clocks leapt into summer time
as everything froze beneath the snow outside.

Bushes and Trees Full of Birds

It's a strange winter this year
Strange things are happening

I have never seen a pheasant in a rose bush before
But he was there
pecking away at the branches
Does he like the rosehips I wonder?

Lots of eagles swooped above the farmlands up the valley

Mostly juveniles
but some adults too.

Not only do I love the eagles
but I love Winter's lacy trees against
rare blue skies.

Better Late than Scratched

Quite a week

Rocks piled one on top of the other form this land
Rocks that lie in water
Trees stand proud atop this pile of rocks
Roots work their way down
into that life giving water.

The Artist Way Collective met on Monday.
There are seven of us
 each one quite unique
Each one so inspiring
I am so grateful to be one of them.
Then on Wednesday
Three of us drove up the valley
the buy wool and vegetables.
A lovely day out.

On Friday as I couched bits and pieces of my new wool
we received sad news of the passing of my Auntie Rosie.
Roses were added..
and when my cousin suggested I add some rosemary
I made a very weak attempt at doing so.
Rosie was the best Aunt
Much Loved
She will be missed.

On Saturday my friend Chris arrived for a few days play
She always comes with lovely doggie biscuits
for some very excited Rusty Pups!
We played with paint and brush and Gelli Plates and Softoleum.
We sipped wine and feasted on quinoa and asparagus.
On Sunday we learned all about solar plates
and printing presses.
But unfortunately snow cut our day short
and we will have to return to complete the workshop.

A sad but busy week.
